Our banjo teacher has worked across a wide spectrum of the industry and can address all goals and needs you may have in your lesson and across all styles of learning.

Why Learn with BassLine Music?

BassLine Music provides the best teaching instruction in Palm Springs (and arguably the best in California) with opportunities to play live shows at local venues, use professional sound systems, and learn from a classically trained multi-instrumentalist with over 25 years of teaching experience.

Amidst countless positive reviews, one that stands out is from Karen, the parent of a young bass student. “Under Mikael’s direction our son chose to attend Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship.” Post-secondary music schools in the US and across the world have extremely competitive entrance requirements, and generally require more stringent audition preparation than a student can learn by themselves. This is just one of the many benefits gained from learning music with BassLine.

Play the songs you love on the banjo, from folk and rock to ukulele, or learn your own in composition lessons, at BassLine today.

The Process
Getting started

The process at BassLine is pretty simple. Come here as a beginner, intermediate, or advanced banjo student. Our students improve, become the musicians they envision without ever losing sight of the essential, genuine joy that is playing an instrument.

01 — Tell us about your goals

We start by discussing your goals and getting to know each other. You may want to let Mikael know what instruments you can play and which ones you want to improve on.

No matter which genre you’ve fallen in love with, we cater to your interests and work together to get you at the top of your game. Alongside learning the fundamentals, we teach our students the songs they want to learn, so it’s not just educational but super enjoyable, too.

02 — Begin your lessons

Then we get started with lessons, having fun playing the banjo, and getting on the road to mastering your instrument!

03 — Practice makes perfect

Finally, practice is the key to success! Regular lessons with our skilled banjo teacher are paramount to keeping your home practice routine on track.

Both of my sons took piano from Mikael but learned so much more! He is a phenomenal teacher. Not only did they learn to read music but they had the opportunity to collaborate and perform with others.

Mikael is an amazing musician who is reliable and professional. Both of my sons have different personalities and he adjusted his teaching to meet their needs.

I waited 44 years to learn to play the guitar I got when I turned 16. I scoured the Coachella Valley for someone worthy of my time, my energy, and my money. Someone with exceptional musical knowledge and skill. Someone extremely patient and approachable. And most of all, someone who respected MY musical goal, which is to play well enough to put a smile on the face of that 16 yr-old me.Based on my experience with Mikael, I’d say you can trust him with your musical dream. I did. And I’m smiling.

I have been taking lessons from Mikael for about seven years now. I have learned guitar, bass, keys, and ukulele. I have nothing but good things to say. The way he organizes his lessons and allows time for whatever you feel like you need to do in the lesson is great, and makes learning very fun and exciting.

Mikael makes learning acoustic guitar so much fun and challenging at the same time. The lessons are fit perfectly to my level, a total beginner, and my age, a super senior citizen 🙂 Mikael is patient, kind, supportive and flexible. Most important is the bi-annual recital/performance with all of Mikael’s students where we enjoy and share the local stage with our families, friends and community. I look forward to Mikael’s weekly classes both in person and virtual sessions, where there is no difference in quality. Thank you so much for being my music teacher. With respect and appreciation!
